max-route-instances
Enables/disables limit checking and configures the maximum number of route instances across all BGP sessions.
Syntax: max-route-instances [value | no-limit]
value
Sets the maximum number of route instances allowed in the routing table to the specified number. Valid values are 0 - 4,294,967,295.
no-limit
Disables limit checking for number of route instances.
Description: Large numbers of BGP routes instances and can strain the resources of the Avici router server. The max-route-instances command enables limit checking on the number of route instances on the Avici router. If the limit is reached, additional routes are gracefully discarded without resetting the BGP sessions.
Use the max-route-instances value command to enable limit checking and set the maximum number of route instances to the specified number.
NOTE The current number of routes instances must be LESS than the specified number.
Use the max-route-instances no-limit command to disable limit checking.
NOTE When limit checking is disabled, the Avici router will accept routes until the processing limits of the server are reached. Additional routes may cause the Avici router to reset.
Factory Default: Limit checking for number of route instances is disabled, with a default value of 0.
Command Mode: Router configuration.
Example 1: In the following example:
- The router bgp command enables BGP routing and associates the router with autonomous system 101.

- The show ip bgp route-dropped-sessions command displays the new setting:
router#configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
router(config)#router bgp 101
router(config-router)#max-route-instance 1500000
router(config-router)#end
router#sho ip bgp route-dropped-sessions
