isis metric
Sets the Level 1 or Level 2 default metric for an interface.
Syntax: isis metric default-metric [level-1 | level-2]
no isis metric
default-metric
The default metric is used as a value for the IS-IS metric.Valid values are 0 - 63.
level-l
Configure the metric only for level-1 routing.
level-2
Configure the metric only for level-2 routing.
Description: The default metric is a relative cost for sending information over this interface. If all interfaces in a given area use the default metric of 10, the metric acts as a simple hop count metric. However, if each interface is given a cost based on its speed, the amount of projected traffic over this interface, and the amount of data the network on the other side of the interface can handle, then the metric provides additional information for the determination of best route.
Use the isis metric default-metric command to set the default metric for the interface. If no level is specified, the command configures the metric for level-1 routing only.
Use the isis metric default-metric or the isis metric default-metric level-1 command to set the default metric for level-1 (intra-area) routing.
Use the isis metric default-metric level-2 command to set the default metric for level-2 (inter-area) routing.
Use the no isis metric command to set the default metric at the system default of 10.
Factory Default: For Loopback interfaces: 0, for all other interfaces: 10.
Command Mode: Interface configuration.
Example: In the following example:
- The router isis command enables IS-IS on the router, specifies an IS-IS instance, and changes the command mode to Router configuration.
- The net command configures a NET for the routing process.
- The interface pos n/n/n identifies a specific POS interface and changes the command mode to Interface configuration.
- The ip router isis command enables the IS-IS process specified by the global router isis command on the interface.
- The isis metric default-metric level-1 command configures a default metric of 25 for Level 1.
- The show running-config interface command displays the setting:
router(config)#router isis 0
router(config-router)#net 49.0001.0000.0000.1111.00
router(config-router)#interface pos 1/5/1
router(config-if)#ip router isis 0
