is-type
Configures the router to operate as a level-1 router, a level-2 router or both.
Syntax: is-type {level-1 | level -1-2 | level-2}
no is-type
level-1
Router operates as a Level-1 (intra-area) router.
level-1-2
Router operates as both an intra-area router and an inter-area router.
level-2-only
Router operates as a Level-2 (inter-area) router only.
Description: Most routers operate as either a Level-1 router (intra-area) or a Level-2 (inter-area) router. Level-1 routers learn about only those destinations within their area. Level-2-only routers operate as backbone routers and do not talk to Level-1-only routers in their area.
Use the is-type level-1 command to configure the router to operate as a Level-1 (intra-area) router.
Use the is-type level-2-only command to configure the router to operate as a Level-2 (inter-area) router.
Use the is-type level-1-2 command to configure the router to operate as both a Level-1 (intra-area) and Level-2 (inter-area) router.
Use the no is-type command to configure the router using the system default of both Level-1 and Level-2.
Factory Default: Router operates as both a Level-1 and a Level-2 router.
Command Mode: Router configuration.
Example: In the following example:
- The router isis command enables IS-IS on the router, specifies an IS-IS instance, and changes the command mode to Router configuration.
- The is-type level-1 command configures the router to operate as a Level-1 router.
- The show isis command displays the setting:
router#configure terminal
